Abstract
Data sources included the population of persons who were released to parole supervision during 1983 and the population of first releases between 1978 through 1983. Time served data are presented in two forms. In the first, the time served distribution is broken into 10 categories ranging from under 12 months to 240 months and above. The number and percentage of cases in each specific offense category and for each time category is provided in tabular form. In addition, the average (arithmetic mean) time served is presented in months for each specific offense category. Each specific offense category (e.g., robbery first, second, and third degree) is presented separately. Appendix A contains a detailed description of each offense category, as well as the Penal Law section number and felony class category. Attempts of each offense type also are listed in tables.
