Individual module examine crisis theory, the impact of victimization (including posttraumatic stress disorder), and the goals and techniques of crisis intervention with victims of crime. Crime scene preservation is considered as it relates to victim assistance. Also covered are victim services and related law and its application. The importance of explaining court processes to victims and the role and responsibility of the prosecutor toward the victim also are covered. A module on stress management familiarizes officers with stress factors and techniques for alleviating the stress inherent in work with victims. Available community programs to meet victim needs are reviewed. Finally, medical issues in victim assistance, including evidentiary issues and victim compensation and forensic issues are covered. Each module provides a lesson plan worksheet outlining performance objectives and topics covered. Methods of presentation, resource materials, and bibliographies also are provided.
