This environmental assessment study was conducted for the construction of a 2,200-bed maximum-security prison to cover approximately 100 acres in Del Norte County, Calif.
Abstract
It outlines the impact of construction and the proposed facility on the area's geology, hydrology, plant and animal life, quality, archeology, and energy resources. It also discusses the effects of facility lighting, noise, and utilities on the surrounding environment. Measures to mitigate these impacts, when feasible, are described. Some of these measures include the construction of earthquake-resistant structures, provision of a drainage system to control run-off and erosion, minimization of particulate emissions from the burning of wood waste, implementation of a solid waste recycling and salvage program, and compliance with applicable wastewater regulations. Energy conservation measures also will be implemented. A listing of plant and animal species observed at the site is appended. Figures and section references.
