This field training manual of the Delaware State Police presents the procedures whereby recruit troopers receive formal instruction on the job.
Abstract
After presenting the Preamble to Law Enforcement Code of Ethics and the Canons of Law Enforcement Ethics, the manual presents the goals and objectives of the field training program and the manual. The manual serves as a guide for the field training officer (FTO) in training a recruit and instructs the FTO in preparing a progress report on the recruit's performance. The manual also describes the basic recruit training program and the duties and responsibilities of the FTO supervisor. A checklist addresses the knowledge and ability the recruit must exhibit to perform adequately, and an overall evaluation procedure is presented for assessing the recruit's strengths and weaknesses. The manual contains a training guide index, a report evaluation cover sheet, a recruit record of case numbers, and an FTO supervisor's weekly training report. A guide shows the sections of the Delaware Criminal Code which deal with specific offenses. Forms are provided for a request for a training extension and the recruit's evaluation of the FTO.
