Length

This guide instructs officer trainees in the tasks to be performed in the five phases of the Santa Ana Police Department's field training program, which is designed to guide and evaluate recruits in their performance of law enforcement tasks.
Abstract
The guide first instructs trainees in the objectives and procedures of the field training program and outlines the time frame and purpose of each of the required five phases and a six phase, which may be used for remediation at the discretion of the field training officer. The program phases focus on field orientation (1 week), basic patrol procedures (4 weeks), intermediate patrol procedures (3 weeks), advanced patrol procedures (3 weeks), and solo performance and final evaluation (1 week). In addition to providing an outline of the tasks in each of the phases, the guide provides a performance record for each phase, which provides for the date when each task was demonstrated and comments on each task. For the field training manual, which instructs field training officers in program procedures and their tasks, see NCJ 105773.
