This article offers a new approach for presenting blood group statistics. The forensic scientist first defines the question the court will want answered in relation to the blood group evidence and decides the manner in which the statistics are to be presented.
Abstract
The scientist then chooses to refer to either a racial or mixed-race population survey. From consideration of any geographical barriers that may limit the pool of possible suspects, the scientist compiles a relevant mixed-race population survey by weighting the genotype probabilities for each race according to the proportion of the population belonging to that race. This approach is illustrated by compilation of the ABO, PGM, Hp and EAP gene frequencies expected in various New Zealand populations. 3 tables and 11 references. (Author abstract modified)
