These data tables detail employment and expenditures on civil and criminal justice activities in the United States for 1971-79 and 1985.
Abstract

Specific data are supplied for the Federal Government, each of the 50 State governments, and the aggregate local level of government within each State. The data were gathered by means of a special survey conducted by the Bureau of the Census, using a special sample survey of State and local governments. The survey included a total of 8,223 local governments.
