Some of these programs include a teen court that hears cases involving first offenders and hands down sentences such as restitution or community service. Statewide community services staff have been helping high school groups develop antidrug programs. A risk/needs assessment and classification system aids in determining the most effective type and intensity of probation contacts. Specialized programs include a vocational and general equivalency diploma marine institute, an emergency placement center, and a wilderness program. In addition, public-private cooperation has been instrumental in the development of an independent living program and a professional home care program. Other programs include intensive treatment programs for institutionalized youth, an adjustment center, substance abuse programs, and a Boys Club.
