STATISTICS ON CHARACTERISTICS OF PERSONS PLACED ON PROBATION BY COURTS AND U.S. COMMISSIONERS AND AT THE REQUEST OF U.S. ATTORNEYS UNDER DEFERRED PROSECUTION.
Abstract
VIOLATION RATES ARE ANALYZED BY TYPE OF SUPERVISION, VIOLATION, AND CHARACTERISTICS OF VIOLATORS. THE REPORT COMPARES THE ORIGINAL OFFENSE, LENGTH OF SUPERVISION, PRIOR RECORD, AND AGE OF PERSONS WHO VIOLATE WITH THOSE WHO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE SUPERVISION. VIOLATION RATES ARE ALSO COMPARED AGAINST THE USE OF PROBATION BY THE 89 U.S. DISTRICT COURTS. IN ADDITION, THIS PUBLICATION PROVIDES INFORMATION CONCERNING SOME OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PROBATION OFFICERS' CASELOAD AT THE END OF THE FISCAL YEAR, INCLUDING A DESCRIPTION OF THE PERSONS SUPERVISED.
