Abstract
The book discusses court decisions and statutes which have affected personnel assessment. Overall, these legal mandates require systematic job analysis and job-related and fair selection procedures which have a minimal adverse impact on protected groups. Detailed analyses of the tasks performed in an assessment center focus on job analysis and testing for knowledge, skills, and abilities. Also addressed are the issues of validity and how rater reliability is established and monitored. The ethical and professional problems in the selection and training of assessors are considered. The book also details the development of written examinations, oral boards, and simulations for the measurement of job-related criteria; the mechanics of developing and operating an assessment center; assessment center costs and benefits; and the last step of feedback and employee career development.
