This report describes the activities of the Prince Edward Island Committee on Victims of Crime (Canada) between 1984 and 1987.
Abstract
The Committee's primary goals were to implement recommendations of a previous study on victim assistance services and to carry out a plan for the integration and coordination of community resources for the benefit of victims of crime. Major issues addressed by the Committee included restitution and victim compensation, photographing of evidence, protective legislation for domestic assault victims, police training, witnesss information, legal aid for victims, sexual assault intervention, offender treatment, and police response to victims. During its 3 years, the Committee has conducted evaluative research, initiated policy and procedural changes, and developed materials to assist victims/witnesses (including a witness brochure and a services directory), and contributed to an increased awareness of victims' rights and needs. 12 exhibits and 12 references.
