Photographs and descriptive narrative are used to portray the equipment used by the Blue Lightning Strike Force to counter drug trafficking across U.S. borders in southern Florida.
Abstract
Air surveillance equipment includes early-warning systems; Mystere-Falcons, Aerospatiale HH-65A, and Dolphin helicopters; Piper Cheyennes; Cessna Citations, 206's, and 404 Titans; Aero Commanders; Sikorsky Seaguards; and Huey and Black Hawk helicopters. Boats include 270-foot, high-endurance cutters; Blue Thunder speedboats soon to have 575 hp; Chris Craft Stingers; medium-size patrol boats; a utility boat for a rough-sea chase; and airboats for the Everglades. Armaments are the AR-15 assault rifle, Remington riot-type shotgun, .38 Smith and Wesson Model 60 Chiefs Special, .357 Magnum, Model 469 Parabellum, Heckler and Koch HK33E automatic rifle, .45 M-1911, .50 caliber M-2 Browning Heavy Barrel machine gun, M-16, and M-19. Numerous photographs show the equipment at rest and in operation, with accompanying narrative descriptions of equipment operations, capabilities, and specifications.
