This text examines current developments in forensic science from education and training through professional ethics and morality and specific forensic applications.
Abstract
Education and training topics highlighted include forensic science in the liberal arts curriculum and in a criminal justice program, an inservice training program for crime laboratory analysts, training and research within the Federal Bureau of Investigation, graduate programs, and research and practice in Canada. The purpose of and future directions for forensic science research are considered, with specific reference to analytical and medicolegal aspects of forensic toxicology, the use of high performance liquid chromatography in drug analysis, breath alcohol analysis, and the use of genetic marker systems in the individualization of blood and body fluids. Other topics include methods for the detection and identification of bomb scene and arson scene residues (explosives and accelerants), forensic microscopy, advances in fingerprint analysis, and trace evidence analysis.
