Terrorist kidnappings of private businesspersons living and working in foreign countries are of relatively minor importance to U.S. interests. The U.S. Government can often do little more than gently prod the government within whose jurisdiction the kidnapping occurred to take action. Friends and corporate associates of the victim and religious and other private organizations should take appropriate supportive and advocacy action to help victims' families and influence authorities to give priority to the victim's release.
