There have been tremendous advances in computer-based education over the last 35 years. Many of these advances are changing the character of educational programs in correctional institutions. This article describes a very successful computer-based project that has been introduced at two correctional facilities in Ontario, Canada.
Abstract
In so doing, it also reviews several of the other PLATO projects which have proven to be successful in other correctional jurisdictions. The Millbrook Correctional Centre and the Ontario Correctional Institute are two institutions under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Ministry of Correctional Services. Millbrook houses maximum security inmates while the Ontario Correctional Institute serves as a treatment facility. The PLATO computer-based education project has greatly improved the educational programs in both locations. (Author abstract)
