This report presents an overview of trends in crime and basic theories of the causes of crime. It covers strategies by particular crime types, for example, property crimes against the home, vehicles, and at school or the workplace, and discusses development in crime prevention in other countries.
Abstract
Some of the strategies covered include Neighborhood Watch and other community-based programs to watch for unusual persons and activities in neighborhoods; hardware for crime prevention, such as locks, alarms, and cameras; and operation marking. Also covered are leisure-time programs for juveniles, police-community programs, and similar prevention programs. The report also covers insurance against theft and other methods to guard against victimization, such as making yourself and your belongings less vulnerable to criminal opportunity. Statistics on crime trends for both property crimes and crimes against persons are provided.
