A sample of police officers in New Zealand were given Bass's (1985) Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire which assesses followers' perceptions of leaders' behavior with reference to the transformational and transactional leadership style.
Abstract
The officers were required to describe both actual leader behavior and their leadership preference. Results showed that actual leadership in the New Zealand police is more transformational than transactional and that police officers preferred to see their leaders display transformational leader behavior more frequently.
