Six training modules for professionals, paraprofessionals, and volunteers who deal with family violence focus on the nature, extent, and dynamics of family violence and appropriate intervention techniques.
Abstract
The first model addresses the learners' awareness of their attitudes and emotions related to family violence and how they relate to job performance, the historical context of family violence, and sociocultural values that contribute to family violence. Module II, the 'Dynamics of Family Violence,' considers the extent and types of family violence, family structure and roles, causation, and the effect of family violence on the elderly. Module III, the 'Identification of Family Violence,' teaches how to recognize the symptoms and effects of family dysfunction and the assessment of families at risk. In teaching the development and implementation of a service plan, Module IV covers intake and intervention and interview techniques. Module V, the 'Legal Parameters of Domestic Violence,' defines abuse and discusses police involvement and the courts' role. The concluding module focuses on community resources, treatment modes, and a comprehensive community response. 21 references and a 115-item bibliography.
