The nine areas examined included law enforcement, prosecution, local jails, courts, probation, correctional services, parole, data communication, and support services. A data flow document (appended) was developed to represent an ideal system for automated information exchange and to serve as a preliminary plan for developing a coordinated CJIS. In addition, a multiyear program was set up to develop and implement short- and long-term information system plans. The program goals include strengthening statewide services, automation of criminal justice functions at the State level, and support of standard data collection and automation at the local level. The program's focus is on automation, standardized forms and data definitions, accurate and comprehensive data, communications, and support.
