This model policy on acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) was developed by the International Association of Chiefs of Police to serve as a guide for the police executive who is interested in formulating a written procedure to prevent and resolve potential problems related to AIDS and other infectious diseases.
Abstract
The directive explains the purpose, reasons a policy is needed, general precautions, training, procedures for handling supplies, and custody procedures for high-risk individuals. The directive also covers procedures related to vehicle maintenance, cell contamination, property contamination, and exposure to infectious disease or contaminated materials in the line of duty. Police executives who are preparing policies using this model are advised to refer to all Federal, State, and municipal laws, ordinances, regulations, and judicial and administrative decisions to ensure that the AIDS and infectious disease policy to be implemented meets the unique needs of the jurisdiction.
