This training film is designed to help students understand that drug decisions are really decisions about values and shows that young people who know their values are in a better position to make wise decisions about drugs.
Abstract
Using realistic vignettes, the presentation portrays how two young people think through their drug decisions in advance, so that when a drug issue arises, they are able to act in their own best interest. It also points out that people grow by working out their problems, not by hiding behind drugs. It shows viewers how they can say 'no' effectively. The film also tells the story of Carol, whose marijuana smoking began in the sixth grade as a response to loneliness. It presents in her own words her gradual realization that drugs did not put her in control of her life or solve any problems. It also describes her decision to take responsibility for being the kind of person she wants to be, her difficulty in adjusting to life without marijuana and the ways her friend helped her regain control of her life.
