These lesson plans for resource persons (lawyers and law students) in law-related classes cover various subjects for students in kindergarten through the eighth grade.
Abstract
The format for each lesson plan encompasses background information for the resource person, teacher activities prior to the resource person's lesson plan, and teacher followup activities. Background information covers lesson objectives and grade-level characteristics, and teacher previsit activities are designed to prepare the students for the resource person's visit. Lesson plans are activity-oriented and geared to grade-level needs. Followup class activities are designed to reinforce the resource persons classroom presentation. The subjects for which lesson plans are presented are classroom rules (kindergarten), laws (first grade), consumer rights and responsibilities-I (second grade), legal authority (third grade), due process (fourth grade), consumer rights and responsibilities-II (fifth grade), lawmaking (sixth grade), and juvenile court proceedings (seventh and eighth grades). Hints are provided for working with classes of exceptional students: mentally retarded, orthopedically handicapped, hearing impaired, and gifted students.
