NCJ Number
108995
Date Published
1987
Length
35 pages
Annotation
This comic book presents two stories in which adults verbally abuse their children and uses the Spider-Man character to explain to children what to do if this happens.
Abstract
One story shows a father being verbally abusive and throwing objects when drunk. The other shows a mother who says unkind things to her daughter and is too preoccupied to pay attention to her child's needs. Spider-Man tells readers that if they are victims, it is not their fault. They deserve to be treated as the valuable people they are. If their parents' words are hurting them, they should try to talk with their parents or write them a note. It is also all right to tell someone if something is happening in the family that hurts. List of sources of help, summary of State laws about emotional child abuse, and address of the National Committee for Prevention of Child Abuse.
