This guide suggests projects that citizens, law enforcement agencies, and local governments can organize to celebrate Crime Prevention Month in October 1987, using the theme of Watch Out, Help Out and materials featuring the cartoon character McGruff and the 'Take A Bite Out Of Crime' slogan.
Abstract
After highlighting several events that will make the public aware of Crime Prevention Month, the guide provides a sample proclamation that local governments can use. Projects that involve the entire community in the event are outlined, as are ones targeted to specific groups: children and teens, senior citizens, businesses, and the media. New initiatives of the McGruff public service advertising campaign that address drug abuse prevention for elementary school children are described. The booklet provides a McGruff Halloween Safety quiz, statistics on crime and crime prevention, and several reproducible crime prevention tips.
