This article presents a discussion of the formation of the Special Weapons and Tactics for Urban Police School by the Miami Beach Police Department in 1987.
Abstract
The school is designed to provide officers involved in the handling of special threats with a sound foundation of tactical knowledge, skills, and abilities. Urban police tactics, a substantial physical fitness program, and a training manual are included in the 120-hour course. Successful completion of the course requires written testing of 80 percent or better to pass, passing the physical and firearms portions, and a critiqued team tactical problem.
