This report discusses (1) practical employment relations problems that management faces when AIDS becomes a workplace issue and (2) legal issues that influence any personnel action taken with respect to AIDS.
Abstract
A management consultant discusses thoughts on how management should respond to an employee with AIDS, as well as how it should react to the fears of coworkers and customers. Focusing on education as the key to taking an enlightened approach to AIDS, medical facts about AIDS are included to equip management with the basic knowledge needed to develop policies and programs with respect to AIDS. Employee testing and screening and the impact of AIDS on employee benefits are also covered. Legal considerations that management should know when setting an AIDS policy are highlighted, as well as advice on how to deal with fears of coworkers and a rundown of specific State and local laws covering AIDS. Appendix, list of workplace guidelines, and index.
