Abstract
Stress derived from financial problems may be managed by developing and implementing a strategy to increase income by learning to budget, by obtaining child support payments, and by determining eligibility for government programs. Stress due to daily living demands can be relieved by trading child care tasks with other parents, working for an employer who is sympathetic to the demands of child care, establishing a regular home routine, planning ahead of time what to do if your child must be home from school, and contacting appropriate agencies to find out about child care resources. Stress, isolation, and emotional distress can be mitigated by counseling, a support group, the resolution of legal problems, adopting a routine, establishing a discipline plan for the children, and the use of appropriate child discipline. Other measures include anticipating responses to upsetting situations, controlling emotional responses to your children, respecting children's individuality, developing a new hobby, getting out of the house occasionally, and having responsible relationships.
