In the planning of appropriate security for the $100 million exhibit, security personnel first reviewed security plans for the exhibit at its preceding location in Montreal, Canada. Unable to use such unique specifications, 61 separate security-related tasks were identified and assigned to university personnel, including security for unloading the exhibit from the plane, security passes for workers, traffic barriers to protect the building, and establishment of backup emergency power. Procedures were approved by department administration and placed in an operational guide to security and policing activities for the exhibit. Security measures included color-coded passes for workers, alarm systems for individual pieces of the exhibit, television cameras at all of the exhibit areas, hiring and training additional temporary officers, and establishing an effective communications system and control center.
