A review of the development of the juvenile court's jurisdiction considers the historical development of Georgia juvenile courts, the 1971 Georgia Juvenile Court Code, the State's juvenile court organization, the parens patriae doctrine, and the exclusive and concurrent jurisdictions of the juvenile court. After reviewing various aspects of juvenile court procedure, the rules of evidence for juvenile court are presented. Deprivation proceedings and proceedings to termate parental rights are explained in detail, followed by a discussion of issues involving the concurrent jurisdiction of juvenile courts: guardianship, mental health commitments, and child custody and transfer orders. Delinquency and unruliness proceedings are detailed. A review of the interstate procedures for apprehension, return, placement, or supervision of juveniles includes an overview of pertinent laws, the requisition process for the return of runaways and escapees, procedures for voluntary return, and the transfer of jurisdiction over adjudicated juveniles.
