In recent years, many police departments have created crime analysis and intelligence units for strategic and tactical planning. This paper discusses the basic strategies and tactics derived from theoretical criminology for law enforcement policy decision making.
Abstract
Specifically, appropriate research methodologies such as systems and link analysis, historical research, inferential statistics, and others are discussed, and their epistemological foundations, i.e., Classical, Functional Interactive, and Critical Theories are described. From these theoretical, multi-disciplinary, and multi-faceted approaches to human knowledge, specific criminological strategies, tactics and purposes are developed. (Author abstract)
