This booklet uses a question-and-answer format to provide information about the nature, extent, and transmission of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and methods of prevention.
Abstract
Questions and answers focus on the causes, the difference between having AIDS and being infected with the human immunodeficiency virus, the nature of AIDS Related Complex, and the progression of the disease. Information is also given on the percentage of cases in each of seven population subgroups; the reasons that homosexual and bisexual males, intravenous drug abusers, and hemophiliacs are at increased risk for AIDS; and methods of transmission. Further topics covered include the common symptoms of AIDS, its diagnosis and treatment, the extent of AIDS infection in children, efforts to educate the general public and particular groups to prevent the spread of AIDS, ways to reduce the risk of AIDS, and the rights of AIDS patients.
