Eleven articles examine violence philosophically, empirically, and practically, as all the articles concern the kinds of settings within which counselors work and the kinds of violence with which counselors are likely to deal.
Abstract
The opening article considers the ethical and professional responsibilities of counselors in dealing with violence, followed by an article that reviews research pertaining to the impact of pornography on violence toward women and discusses implications for counseling. Three articles examine male socialization as it affects men's violence toward women; aggression replacement training, an intervention method for aggressive juveniles; and posttraumatic stress disorder among Vietnam veterans. Other articles address the prevention of violence on college campuses, the school counselor's role in preventing violence in schools, issues and implications for counselors in the abuse of older persons, and the consequences of police officers' exposure to violence. Remaining articles consider the characteristics and treatment of male spouse abusers and a case study of how a pupil service team provided crisis intervention for students, teachers, and parents in the aftermath of a shooting spree by a student at the schools.
