This bulletin provides summaries of nine studies conducted in 1986 under the aegis of the Japanese Research and Training Institute.
Abstract
Research examined change over time (1950-early 1980's) and regional disparities in homicide and homicide/robbery; characteristics, attitudes, employment, and recidivism among youthful offenders released from juvenile training schools; behavioral characteristics (adaptability, cooperativeness, attitudes, and problem behaviors) of juveniles in juvenile detention and classification facilities; and regional crime incidences. Other studies investigated the relationship between the perceptions and characteristics of theft offenders and their behavior at time of offense, organized criminals' attitudes toward crime and their victims, the parole and rehabilitation of long-term prisoners, and the relation of the attitudes of juvenile probationers to treatment measures and outcomes over time. The final study examined the relationship between social change and the characteristics of female offenders and their offenses between 1945 and 1986.
