The center, which was built to house 28, has separate female and juvenile areas and allows for the physical separation of nonsentenced and sentenced inmates as well as inmates on release status. Each wing has a dayroom. The jail is distinguished not only by its multicounty operation but also by its administrative structure. The Regional Corrections Board operates as a subunit of local government continuing under the original joint powers agreement which sets the board as the governing body of adult and juvenile probation/parole, intensive supervision, alternative sentencing, and Northwest Regional Corrections Center services. The administrator serves the board as director of the center and administrator of the corrections system. Sheriffs of the three counties serve on the Community Corrections Advisory Board. The center operates, however, as a distinct local government entity separately administered and managed. Programs include educational and psychological services. Illustrative photographs are provided.
