This publication presents 21 articles relating to acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) which appeared in the 'Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report,' published by the Centers for Disease Control, for June 1986 through May 1987.
Abstract
The opening article presents recommendations for providing dialysis treatment to patients infected with human T-lymphotropic virus, type III/lymphadenopathy-associated virus, followed by an article on the transmission of these same viruses through a seronegative blood donor. Another article examines the presence of these AIDS-related virus antibodies in U.S. military recruit applicants. Among the topics covered in other articles are AIDS among blacks and Hispanics in the United States, the immunization of children infected with AIDS-related viruses, tuberculosis and AIDS, AIDS antibodies in female prostitutes, and self-reported changes in sexual behaviors among homosexual and bisexual men attending a San Francisco clinic. Some articles document the transmission of AIDS in particular circumstances such as organ donations and among health care workers exposed to the blood of infected patients. For the first volume of articles, see NCJ-110929. Subject index.
