Abstract
These programs have grown in popularity since the 1960's. Citizens, police, and scholars currently endorse the concept. However, measuring the effects of these programs has been difficult due to the difficulties involved in gathering and analyzing crime data. Nevertheless, the quality of data and research have improved in the last decade. Professional training for leaders of crime prevention groups is not available, however. Without adequate training for both block leaders and crime control practitioners, community crime control programs will fail to achieve their full potential. Chapter notes and 59 references.
