This handbook provides information on Canada's Parole Act and related regulations for judges and crown attorneys.
Abstract
The organization of the National Parole Board is described, and the jurisdiction of the National and Provincial Parole Boards is specified. Types of releases are delineated, including full parole, day parole, temporary absence with escort, release for humanitarian and rehabilitative reasons, release for medical reasons, and release on mandatory supervision. Conditions for termination and revocation are detailed. General rules governing eligibility for release are presented, as are special rules applicable to violent conduct offenses. The scope of parole reviews and hearings is outlined, and review requirements for various types of releases are set forth. General and optional conditions that may be imposed under supervised releases are specified. Conditions and procedures for suspensions, revocations, and terminations of parole and mandatory supervision are discussed. Also considered are the effects of new sentences. 9 charts.
