Annotation
This affirmative action plan for the Maine Department of Corrections describes policies and procedures designed to ensure equal opportunity employment under the Maine Human Rights Act and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Abstract
It specifies that the Department shall recruit, hire, upgrade, train, and promote individuals without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, age, physical or mental handicap (except where such would interfere with job performance), marital status, or veteran status. The program is designed and utilized to eliminate effects of historic discrimination and stereotyped employment patterns. In addition to setting forth employee policies to ensure this, the plan describes the affirmative action monitoring system and discrimination complaint procedures. A utilization analysis for each of the offices and facilities within the Department provides data on gender and minority status for all positions within the office/facility. Appendixes contain a code of fair practices, job descriptions, performance standards for the affirmative action program, recruitment sources, and a glossary.
