After noting that the DOC is responsible for the custody, care, and control of over 50,000 individuals, the video describes the facilities and programs operated by the Adult Institutions Division. Health, counseling, educational, prison industries, work release, substance abuse treatment, and recreational services are discussed. The next division examined is Adult Community Corrections which oversees parole and probation, alternative community programs, and jails. The lower costs of community corrections are contrasted with those of secure confinement. The videotape covers the conditions of parole, prerelease programs, and alternative programs developed under the 1980 Community Diversion Incentive Act. Finally, the responsibilities of Youth Services are detailed: delinquency prevention, diversion if at all possible, treatment programs, and secure facilities called Learning Centers. A brief section on administration covers the inspector general, volunteers, and staff organization.
