Abstract
Decisions pertinent to criminal investigations address the exclusionary sanction, constitutional doctrines relating to law enforcement conduct, the issuance and execution of arrest and search warrants, detention and related searches, warrantless searches, and electronic surveillance. Other court decisions bearing on criminal investigations focus on interrogation and confessions, undercover investigations, and the grand jury investigative function. Decisions relevant to prosecution and adjudication deal with bail and preventive detention, prosecutorial discretion, the preliminary examination and the grand jury, the right to a speedy trial, discovery and disclosure, right to an impartial trial, and joinder and severance of charges and defendants. Other adjudication issues addressed by the Court are double jeopardy, adjudication of guilt by plea, adjudication by trial, effective counsel assistance, sentencing, and appeal and collateral attack.
