A seminar workbook on the police response to family violence guides seminar participants in assessing and developing an agency family-violence policy in the areas of definitions, arrest, data collection/analysis, on-scene investigation, and training.
Abstract
Each of the aforementioned sections has a format that consists of 'Issues to Consider,' 'Exercises,' and 'Policies to Note.' After guiding seminar participants in the framing of policy definitions of domestic violence disputes, the workbook guides participants in assessing arrest policies under various domestic-violence scenarios. The section on data collection and analysis is designed to help police agencies improve their reporting and analysis of domestic violence incidents. The on-scene-investigation section considers procedures for collecting physical evidence and taking statements at the scene of family violence. Seminar participants are then guided in developing policies for victim assistance and protection. Factors that determine the nature of police domestic-violence training are considered in association with decisions on the frequency, importance, complexity, and type of training to be offered various police personnel.
