Twenty criminal cases were reviewed with regard to polygraph examination results and results obtained by an experienced investigator's examination of the same cases, but without the polygraph data.
Abstract
The cases were randomly selected by a supervisor of polygraph examiners in a U.S. Treasury agency. They included computer fraud, breaking and entering, drug smuggling, theft, bribery, and arson. In all 20 cases, the polygraph results matched the conclusive evidence of guilt or innocence. The investigator's judgment concurred with 19 of the 20 cases. The study suggests selection criteria for panel members of other polygraph result comparison studies. 7 references. 3 tables.
