This paper presents summaries of 17 recent reports, documents, statements, and legislation in the United Kingdom focusing on laws and their enforcement, court procedures, and correctional issues.
Abstract
Individual reports include a survey of the relationships between the press and the courts, a report on Judicial Studies Board's efforts to ensure adequate training for both lay and professional judges, and a summary of efforts to deal with prison overcrowding. Further papers focus on reforms to firearms laws, the United Kingdom's arrangements for dealing with requests for international mutual assistance in criminal matters, the processing of child abuse cases, prisoners' rights litigation, and the prevention of terrorism. Additional reports focus on victim compensation, probation statistics, police statistics, prison education, police officer stress, prison populations, juveniles sentenced for serious offenses, and prison inspections.
