This paper investigates the status of Police-Community Relations (PCR) programs in U.S. cities after the termination of the LEAA and the urban fiscal crisis of the early 1980's.
Abstract
On the basis of findings from repeated surveys of municipal police department chiefs conducted in 1981, 1984, and 1987, results suggest that although PCR programs remain very highly regarded by police managers, they are in some danger of elimination due to the serious fiscal constraints confronting urban police departments. The danger of elimination is most pronounced in the north central and northeastern regions, and large cities. (Author abstract)
