This report by the Pennsylvania Attorney General's family violence task force examines elder abuse and recommends practical improvements in law enforcement for responding to this aspect of family violence.
Abstract
The report examines the stresses and problems that result in domestic (or familial) elder abuse and in institutional elder abuse as well as ordinary crime against elderly citizens. The task force makes several specific legislative recommendations for changes in agency relationships with the elderly to permit increased identification of elder abuse and protection of abused older citizens. Additional recommendations are made for changes in criminal law, for changes in state regulatory procedures, and for the development of policies for law enforcement responses to elderly abuse. Recommendations are also made for data collection, training, and public awareness programs. 623 footnotes.
