Several male inmates and one woman in various stages of AIDS describe the high risk of contracting AIDS in prison and their feeling about the disease and death.
Abstract
These inmates' accounts of their battle with AIDS emphsize that AIDS is transmitted only by blood or semen. Because intravenous drug use and homosexuality are common in prisons, they caution inmates to abstain from both. Other areas covered in the video include misinformation about AIDS transmission, risks of promiscuous sex with women, and symptoms of the disease. It emphasizes that someone infected with AIDS can appear healthy one week and be bedridden the next. The inmates also talk candidly and emotionally about reactions from their families, the stigma of AIDS, suicide, and impending death. Statistics on AIDS victims are contrasted with the estimated 2 million people exposed to AIDS. A plea for education to stop the spread of AIDS concludes the video.
