United States police capabilities for responding to terrorism and violent criminal activity have often been compared unfavorably with similar capabilities in other countries.
Abstract
While law enforcement agencies have sought to develop general response mechanisms and have created some tactical units and special operations forces, the development of such units throughout the United States has been uneven. This paper describes the current state of development based upon preliminary survey data from 186 United States police departments (of 456 departments surveyed). (Author abstract)
