This looseleaf binder presents background materials, reprints of journal articles, and the agenda and presentation outlines for a seminar focusing on family violence in the deaf community.
Abstract
Issues considered included historical perspectives on family violence, legal and social issues related to spouse abuse and child abuse, intervention issues, and the role of alcoholism and polydrug abuse. Specific factors related to violence and abuse in the deaf community, abuse and neglect of deaf children by hearing parents, abuse by deaf parents, and considerations for case management. Presentation also focused on behavioral signs of abuse in young children, intervening techniques, intervention strategies, and therapy techniques. Included in the packet are case examples, a booklet describing selected child abuse information and resources, and a brochure describing the National Center for Law and the Deaf, 119 references.
