This report describes the initiatives taken by the government of Manitoba, Canada in response to the recommendations made in 1984 by Canadian ministers at all levels of government that focus on ways of addressing the problem of wife beating.
Abstract
Recent program developments include a fee waiver program to remove financial barriers to women's access to shelter services, a new housing program providing a longer-term living environment, an integrated domestic assault program, and a family violence program for native families. Other developments include a wife abuse unit in the public safety building, the establishment of batterers' treatment groups, and research and evaluation efforts.
