To assist prosecutors in organizing effective programs to serve the needs of victims and witnesses, this manual offers ready-made forms and procedures that can be adapted to an individual prosecutor's special needs.
Abstract
Model form letters, to inform victims and witnesses of significant phases of criminal prosecution, include: introductory or intake letters, child or adult sexual assault victim letters, grand jury letter for child and adult victims of sexual assault, and misdemeanor restitution letters. Additional procedures for providing services to victims and witnesses are included, as well as sample brochures describing victim assistance programs. A detailed guide is provided for advocates assisting sexual assault victims through the criminal justice system. Information is given on specific prosecutor-based victim assistance programs in Texas counties. Although many of the documents are based on Texas law, they can be adapted to the laws and procedures of other jurisdictions.
